In an object-oriented application, persistence allows an object to outlive the process that created it. The state of the object may be stored to disk and an object with the same state re-created at some point in the future. This application isn t limited to single objects entire graphs of interconnected objects may be made persistent and later re-created in a new process. Most objects

BizTalk provides two Value Mapping functoids: Value Mapping and Value Mapping (Flattening). Both will cause a new record to be created in the destination for every record in the source. The Value Mapping (Flattening) functoid is used when the destination document has a flat structure. Both functoids require two input parameters: a Boolean value and the node that is to be mapped. If the Boolean value is true, the value will be mapped; otherwise, it will not be mapped. Almost all Java applications contain a mix of persistent and transient objects; hence we need a subsystem that manages our persistent data. Modern relational databases provide a structured representation of persistent data, enabling sorting, searching, and aggregation of data. Database management systems are responsible for managing concurrency and data integrity; they re responsible for sharing data between multiple users and multiple applications. A database management system also provides data-level security. When we discuss persistence in this book, we re thinking of all these things:

This will ensure that only those records that are not in this role will be mapped across. See Figure 3 20.

How It Works The new custom tracing code outputs messages to the Trace Information section in the same way as the Page class does. In this simple example, you ve used the trace to check the execution path that the application takes. You expect the data to be validated first and the InsertUser() method to run next, and you expect to see the four regular trace messages that you ve placed in that method. You don t expect any of those messages to be missing from the trace output, and you don t expect any of the messages to appear more than once. If they did, you could deduce that there is a problem with the application s flow, and then you would take further steps to pinpoint the exact problem and fix it.
