The Convert layers to drop-down menu allows you to convert your Illustrator layers to Flash layers or to a series of Flash keyframes (this is handy if they are animated) or allows you to put the whole image into one Flash layer. You are also given the opportunity to import unused symbols created in Illustrator or to flatten the image and bring it in as a bitmap.

The Import unused symbols option may be a bit confusing. Illustrator allows you to create symbols, and these symbols can be imported directly into Flash from Illustrator. We will show how this works in the next chapter.
